Asked by *iz kool* - Sat Dec 12 01:01:56 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 31/21 = 1.47619047619048... The way to come up with close fractional approximations is to use continued fractions. You subtract the integer portion and then take the reciprocal, until you get an answer that's close enough to an integer. 1/(1.47619048-1) = 2.1 1/(2.1-2) = 10 So first we subtracted 1, then 2, then we were left with 10. Those become the bracketed terms in the continued fraction [1] + 1/([2] + 1/[10]) = 1+1/(21/10) = 1+10/21 = 31/21

A. as a fraction you need to start with your number over 100 then find the lowest posible denominator. i.e. 25/100 - 100 is devisable by 25 4 times so your fraction will be 1/4 decimal you just take away the percentage sign and put a decimal point at the start i.e. 43% is .43

A. Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions A mixed number is a combination of a whole number and a fraction. For example, if you have two whole apples and one half apple, you could describe this as 2 + 1/2 apples, or 21/2 apples. Writing Mixed Numbers as Fractions This mixed number can also be expressed as a fraction. Each whole apple contains two half apples. Your two whole apples are also four half apples. Four half apples plus one half apple is five half apples. So you have 5/2 apples. To put this another way: to turn a mixed number into a fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator (the bottom part), and add the result to the numerator (the top part). 21/2 = ? Multiply the whole number by the denominator. The whole number… [cont.]

A. you know how there are places like ones tens hundreds. well anyways for the other side of the decimal there are also places, but it starts from tenths, hundredths, thousandths, millionths, and so on any ways the last number of the decimal is the denominator. for ex. in .35 the 5 is in the place of hundredths so it is 35/100 and you just simplify it for the decimal. the whole number is 3 and the fraction part would be in the thousandths place so 9/1000 so the answer 3(unit) 9/1000 and -.12 it is the same thing forget that the negative is there and you look at the 2 and it is in the hundredths place so 12/100 and than you can add the negative, it doesn't matter if you add it to the bottom or the top. so the answer would be -12/100 and you… [cont.]

A. 1/100 However many decimals there are to the right of the decimal place is how many zeros there will be to the right of the one in the denominator of the fraction, when you write the decimal as a fraction. (2 decimal places=2 zeros=100, therefore it's 1/100)
