How can I improve graphics speed for games on my computer without buying a new graphics card?
Q. Can someone give me some tips on improving the graphics speed for the games on my computer without having to go buy a new graphics card? Just any tips other than buying a new graphics card. Thanks.

A. For processing physics, etc, you could upgrade your processor, but that's also a hardware change and you're probably wanting to steer away from that. Download the latest drivers for your current video card, but other than that there's really nothing you can do. If you're serious about gaming, you're going to have to bite the bullet and get a new, shiny graphics card sooner or later. The most recent games hardly run on the best systems if they're on very-high settings.

A. General desktop graphics are no for intensice stuff, it is only for video, work documents, and taht sort of thing but Gaming graphics are for Rendering intensive 3d Models, Photo editing, video editing, and animation creation. These are the things the 3d Gamign grpahics would be used for to improve your graphics rating u would have to buy a new graphics card

What is the difference between graphics and gaming graphics?
Q. i just bought a new laptop which has an okay gaming graphics rating but a low graphics rating. Does this effect my gaming needs? If yes, does it means I have to buy a new graphic card?

A. If your talking about the windows graphics rating I wouldn't worry about that the games rating is for the windows games mostly an graphics rating for Windows features like Aero. Most laptops these days in your case a new one have a good graphics cards inbuilt and so all you need is more ram as video memory is often shared with ram. Also I'd suggest going to your graphics cards website and downloading new drivers for your video card this will also increase you performance over the factory drivers and increase new game compatibility. To find out the version of your graphics card run the dxdiag tool in windows by choosing start run and input the following dxdiag hit enter and up will come all info on your system. Select the display tab to… [cont.]

How do I know if a graphics card will work for my computer?
Q. I am planning on getting a new graphics card for my computer, but I am not sure if the graphics card will fit. I am planning on getting a Geforce 9400. The computer model is a Gateway 838GM. My current graphics card is a intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL express chipset family. Any help is appreciated.

A. It looks like you will be fine installing this particular graphics card. The slot type your computer has is compatible with it. Just make sure before installing it that you have a power supply that has at least 300watts (You check this by looking at the side of the power supply when you open the case). Also, if it does not have a fan on the rear vent, you should add one because an external card like the one you want to add could generate more heat. Enjoy! =)

What graphics editing program would you recommend for the following tasks?
Q. Hi folks, I need a graphics editing program that can: 1. Add borders 2. Resize both image and canvas 3. Correct photos, ideally with some automated system 4. Crop images I've been using PaintShopPro XI, but it has an awful bug related to trying cache images in the My Pictures directory. Anything else out there? Thanks

A. ~The GIMP is good for all that and also supports writing your own filters/scripts for it, and is free, although for automation, I suggest ImageMagick. It's great for automated/scripted editing.

What program do I need to save my graphics with a transparent background?
Q. I've been playin around with graphics and backgrounds, trying to make my own. The backgrounds are easy enough for me, but the graphics are a whole another issue. I currently am using just my regular paint program that came with my computer. And there seems to be no way to save my graphics with a transparent background. So what program do I need for this? Is there an easy to use, free downloadable one out there? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A. Your right, Windows Paint has no way of defining a transparent background color. However you do have to use a file format that supports transparent colors such as either GIF or PNG. Check out the free Paint.net editor. Also look at the "How to make a transparent GIF" link.

Why would a graphics card cause the wireless internet not to be detected?
Q. I bought a graphics card yesterday and installed it in my desktop. Previously I was using the inbuilt graphics thing on the motherboard. The problem is that as soon as the graphics card is installed, the computer suddenly stops detecting the wireless network in my house. My laptop can still detect it though from the same location. Could the graphics card be causing interference, or something?

A. i doubt your graphics card is interfering with the detection process,, but i would suggest you check the device manager in control panel --> system options, look for any hardware conflict , also check for any problems with your wireless card. good luck

A. The previous poster was right on some points, wrong on others. He was correct in stating that almost all motherboards automatically disable the built-in VGA port if there's a video card detected in the dedicated video slot at startup. He was incorrect in stating that most motherboards these days have multiple video card slots. Such motherboards (SLI and Crossfire) represent a very small minority of motherboards manufactured. Morever, SLI and Crossfire are designed to combine the processing power of multiple video cards to a SINGLE display for increased performance, not to drive separate displays. Just add an inexpensive pci card for your 3rd monitor. That's the low-cost solution. Go with a card from the same manufacturer (Nvidia or… [cont.]

A. You can't, VP uses emulated drivers. If your HOST system "flickers" when you turn on VP, then in VP turn OFF the option for the HOST system to use Guest system display settings. Set Guest Systems to "Allow standard modes only". Inside the Guest system I would suggest using an common setting like 1280x1024. If you are still having trouble with this I might have other suggestions.

A. Ok, this is your computer I suppose? I found out that you have a 4x AGP slot open. So you need to go to the store and ask for a version of the GeForce FX5200 card that is AGP 4x compatible. Most cards are AGP 8x nowadays, but they are likely to be backwards compatible with 4x too. good luck ;)

How much shared graphics memory is allotted in a typical HP Pavilion laptop?
Q. It's not the usual 64mb shared memory for graphics is it?
Asked by DV7 - Thu Aug 27 05:01:09 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For an Hp Pavilion Notebook, you can have up to 256MB of shared graphics memory, starting from 64MB to 128MB to 256MB. However your system will not use the whole 256MB if you do not have enough RAM, and if you do not configure it to use the whole 256MB. To configure your system to use its maximum amount, access the bios by repeatedly hitting the F2 Key just after turning on your computer, then access the the system configuration and change its settings.

A. None. Its very difficult to install a GPU into a notebook, i've been a hardware specialist for 3 years and it is still difficult even when building a notebook from scratch, let aknown modding a prebuilt system from renowned company like Acer. You're only option is to buy a gaming notebook or looking into getting assistance from a hardware engineer to have a look at it him/herself

Yes, there are many online resources that can help you with graphics card selection. Have you never heard of www.tomshardware.com? They have charts testing all major graphics cards and processors to help you make a decision.
