How can you use prime factorization to write a fraction in simplest form?
Q. Help! I need to write in "math language" how to use prime factorization to write a fraction in simplest form. Can you please explain in words how to do that? I cant find it in words the only thing i can find is examples. THANKS!
Asked by Sammylee - Mon Dec 15 22:17:12 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Write out the num and denom of the fraction out as a list of prime factors. Then cross out duplicates in the num and denom. What ever is left is the simplest form. Ex: 24/36 Num: 24=2x2x2x3 Denom: 36=2x2x3x3 Cross out 2 2's and one 3. You're left with 2 in the num and 3 in the denom.

Q. 0.20 as a fraction in simplest form?
Asked by lilsnickerbug - Thu Jan 4 02:03:08 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. 0.20 is not just pronounced "zero point two zero". You can also say that it is "two tenths." This is because the two is in the tenth place. If we had the number .23, then 3 would be in the hundreth decimal place, etc. "Two tenths" is the same as 2/10. You can see that both the numerator and denominator are divisible by 2, so divide each by two and you will receive 1/5. This is your fraction in simplest form. I hope that this helped.

A. you know how there are places like ones tens hundreds. well anyways for the other side of the decimal there are also places, but it starts from tenths, hundredths, thousandths, millionths, and so on any ways the last number of the decimal is the denominator. for ex. in .35 the 5 is in the place of hundredths so it is 35/100 and you just simplify it for the decimal. the whole number is 3 and the fraction part would be in the thousandths place so 9/1000 so the answer 3(unit) 9/1000 and -.12 it is the same thing forget that the negative is there and you look at the 2 and it is in the hundredths place so 12/100 and than you can add the negative, it doesn't matter if you add it to the bottom or the top. so the answer would be -12/100 and you… [cont.]

how do you write decimal as a fraction in simplest form?
Q. like these quest. 1.-0.4 (repeating) 2.0.7 please explain to me in the simplest form possible
Asked by the @nim@L - Thu Sep 18 21:15:48 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. -0.4 repeating as a fraction is 4/9. for any repeating fraction, just put the part that's repeating over that many 9's and then reduce the fraction to lowest terms by finding the greatest common factor. for example: 0.3 (repeating) = 3/9 = 1/3 0.4242 = 42/99 = 14/33 Numbers that are not repeating are more straight forward. In your example 0.7 is 7/10s Other examples 0.5 is 5/10 = 1/2 0.25 = 25/100 = 1/4 0.125 = 125/1000 = 1/8

Q. Simplify your answer in simplest form as a fraction? Elvin typed 9/20 out of his book report on the computer. Then he printed out 5/12 of his book report on his computer printer. Suddenly, there was a power outage, and he discovered that he hadn't saved his book report before the power went off. What fractional part of the book report was lost when the power failed?

A. 1/3 The 9/20 = 90/ 120 and the 5/12 = 50/120 therefore he had 40/120 left unprinted. So 40/120 = 1/3
