Graphic design is a creative process — most often involving a client and a designer and usually completed in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, programmers, signmakers, etc.) — undertaken in order to convey a specific message (or messages) to a targeted audience. The term "graphic design" can also refer to a number of artistic and professional disciplines that focus on visual communication and presentation. The field as a whole is also often referred to as Visual Communication or Communication Design. Various methods are used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated. Common uses of graphic design include identity (logos and branding), web sites, publications (magazines, newspapers, and books), advertisements and product packaging. For example, a product package might include a logo or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as shapes and color which unify the piece. Composition is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What would a graphic design work incorporating type and images be called? Q. I am doing a workshop on graphic design and I am having a little trouble on terminology. I have seen type+image works called "print," but are they only referred to as "print" if they are intended to be printed out? Then what is "print design?" I considered the word "graphic," but I think that might be too broad and general, as it could incorporate simply vector images and whatnot. Asked by whatsaginny - Sun Nov 1 14:28:45 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Simply 'ART'! It is also called Ad Art or Graphic Art. A print is the physical form containing the Art. It is still art weather it is printed, digital, sketched, drawn or painted if it has a commercial intent it is Art. Q. I would like to attend SVA for one or the other but I am unsure of the difference. I looked at the curriculum for both and they had many overlapping classes. I would like to one day make advertisements for television by means of animation but i would not like to work with cartoons. HELP? oh and also is SVA the best choice for a graphic design/advertising major? Asked by latinbaby2good4u22 - Wed Jul 7 21:02:47 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Advertising is strictly ads. Like newspaper, television, ect. ... And can involve animation too. Graphic design can be many things. like designing cd or movie covers. Or maybe design a new screen saver for a computer. Its an endless list really. They go hand in hand because they're one of the same. For you, go for advertising. Graphic design doesnt specifically stay on advertisement for long, and is meant more as a starters place for someone who wants to go into advertisment Answered by Kelcie V - Wed Jul 7 21:07:54 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Graphic design" Unsourced
