How do you reduce a decimal/fraction?
Q. Okay, I know how to turn a decimal into a fraction. Say I have to turn 250.88 into a fraction. It would be 250 88/100. When I have to write it in simplest form, do I also reduce the 100 part? So then it may look like 250 11/25? Would I have to do that with all decimals to fractions. Even a number like, 8/10, 324 34/1000, etc.?
Asked by Addicted To Abercrombie & Fitch - Sun Oct 29 17:29:05 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. yes, you reduce the 100 part to. but you have to find 1 number (the same one) that goes into them evenly. like 250 88/100 would be 250 44/50 (reduced by 2) then break it down again, 250 22/25 (by 2 again, so that would be 4 total) i think that's as far down as you can get. Hope it Helps Chelsie

How do u convert decimal to fraction with square root sym regarding trigonometric functions?
Q. I know how to calculate degrees and radian but I need to know how to convert a decimal I get from degree or radian into a square root fraction also known as a exact answer. For example I have sin 4pie/3 and I know this in decimals is 0.073043073 but what is it in the exact form? I checked the answer key and I see - square root 3 divided by 2 but how do you get this?
Asked by Amanda - Tue Jul 7 17:32:47 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. sin(4pi/3) = sin(pi + pi/3) = - sin(pi/3) (because sin(pi+theta) = -sin(theta)) = - sqrt(3)/2 (because sin(pi/3) = sqrt(3)/2) Ans: - sqrt(3)/2 ___ Remember the following: sin(0) = 0 cos(0) = 1 sin(pi/6) = 1/2 cos(pi/6) = sqrt(3)/2 sin(pi/4) = 1/sqrt(2) cos(pi/4) = 1/sqrt(2) sin(pi/3) = sqrt(3)/2 cos(pi/3) = 1/2 sin(pi + theta) = -sin(theta) sin(pi - theta) = sin(theta) cos(pi +/- theta) = - cos(theta) If you know sin and cos, then you can get other trigonometric ratios because tan = sin/cos cot = cos/sin sec = 1/cos csc = 1/sin

A. fraction to percentage-change it to a decimal (divide) then move the decimal two places to the right. decimal to fraction-i think you make the decimal a percentage then thats out of a 100 (ex. 50/100) then just simplify it, if it needs to be. so that would be 5/10. and yahh

But doublecheck behind me. you might just have to borrow someone else's calculator that does have a F to D key on it. Your kind of calculator is not one I find with my high school students.

A. Turning a fraction into a decimal is the easier, so I'll explain that first: just divide the denominator into the numerator. For example 7/8 is 8 divided into 7, which is .875; and some fractions become 'repeaters' such as 4/7 which is 4 divided by 7. This never comes out exactly but is .571428571428571 . . . . At some point you have to round off to whatever your instructor wants. If it's to be rounded to the nearest thousandth, then it would be .571 Decimals to fractions involves putting the decimal number (minus the decimal) over the appropriate number ( 1 followed by the right number of zeros) For example: .2468 is 2468/1000 (one zero in the denominator for every number in the decimal). Then you begin the process of reducing the… [cont.]

A. How to convert a decimal to a fraction here's how to convert .234 to a fraction... There is not much that can be done to figure out how to write .234 as a fraction, except to literally use what the decimal portion of your number, the .234, means. Since there are 3 digits in 234, the very last digit is the "1000th" decimal place. So we can just say that .234 is the same as 234/1000. We can reduce this fraction to lowest terms by dividing both the numerator and denominator by 2. Why divide by 2? 2 is the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD) or Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the numbers 234 and 1000. So, this fraction reduced to lowest terms is 117/500. how to convert a fraction to a decimal: OK, so there's a few steps to set up… [cont.]

A. 1. First, you divide 5 into 1. 2. You then since 1 is less than 5, you put a decimal point after 1 to continue the problem. 3. Your answer should be .20. 4. To change it into a percent, all you have to do since percents are up to 100, just use your answer without a decimal point and put a % symbol next to it.

Why do the 99x or 999x signify when converting a repeating decimal to a fraction?
Q. When converting a repeating decimal to a fraction, you multiply it by, say, 100. Then you subtract 1x from both sides, leaving 99x or 999x. What is the signifigance to it always being 99, 999, etcetera ? Thanks!
Asked by james r - Mon Sep 17 13:52:11 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This is so you can isolate the "x" and determine a fractional equivalent for the decimal. By going through the process you've described, you eliminate the sequence following the decimal point, and so solving for x, the fractional equivalent becomes feasible. As an example, suppose we have .272727...= x 100 x = 27.272727... and 99x = 100 x - x = 27. So now x = 27/99 = 3/11

Q. I got this math homework, and it told me to change a few fractions to decimal. A few examples are 1/8 and 5/8 and 1/3. HELP!

A. You put it into your calculator the same way you typed it here: 1/8 means 1 divided by 8 This gives you 0.125, by example. To verify if you got the decimal right, so the same thing backwards to check your answer (it should always give you 1 as answer, alright?): 0.125 * 8 = 1 -- so you simply multiply your decimal by the same fraction, but only works when its one over another number, like 1/8, 1/3. it won't work if you have 5/8 or something else, where its not a 1 on top of ur fraction

Is it possible to express every decimal as a fraction?
Q. Is it possible to express every decimal as a fraction? Remember that there are three different types of decimal: terminating decimals (like 0.2335), non-terminating but repeating decimals (like 0.333...), and non-terminating AND non-repeating decimals (like 3.14159265...). Make sure to account for all three of these possibilities, and give examples to support your argument.

A. No - not all decimals can be expressed as a fraction. A terminating decimal can e.g. 0.2335 would be 2335/1000 A repeating decimal can also 0.333... is 1/3 But non recurring ones like PI cannot.

A. No - not all decimals can be expressed as a fraction. A terminating decimal can e.g. 0.2335 would be 2335/1000 A repeating decimal can also 0.333... is 1/3 But non recurring ones like PI cannot.
